HOW TO MAKE A FRAMED SIGN

Today I will show you how I made this personalized wood sign.

First you’ll need to gather your materials and supplies:
– I used 1×2 (frame)
– 3/4″ plywood cut 7″ square
– paint (white, black, and accent color of choice)
– wood glue, finishing nails,
– stain

  • Cut 1x2s into two pieces at 7″ long and 2 pieces at 8.5″ long. Your local hardware store may be able to help you with this step if you don’t have access to a saw.
  • Paint your 1×2 in white. I like to use chalk paint because it dries very quickly and had great coverage. And best of all, i can use it on raw wood without having to prime it first. Being a mom of 3 boys, I’m all about the shortcuts.
  • Stain your 3/4″ plywood. I used Dark Walnut by Minwax.
  • Once your plywood is dry. it is time to personalize your sign. You can paint your message on the sign. My sign was a gift, so I made a monogram sign. You can use two colors to help the name stand out.
  • Once your sign lettering it is done, you are ready to assemble. Get your 1x2s and place then along the sides. Place a line of wood glue where the sign will meet the 1×2 and nail it in place. It helps to have a helping hand here to hold things still while you nail it in place. Do the same for the other side.
  • Now ti is time to put the “frame” not he top and bottom. Follow the same steps to attach the 1×2 to the top and bottom of the sign.
  • Now your sign is pretty much done. I like to give it a protectant coat. You can either use a poly or wax. On this sign I used wax because my paints were all chalk paint. You can use wax on top of the stain too, by the way. That is no problem.

I got some command strips to attach to the back to the sign to hand on the wall. But this sign is good enough to stand on it’s own thanks to the 1×2 wooden frame.

So that’s how I made this wood sign. It is a perfect gift for birthdays. I think that gifts like this are a nice personal touch you can’t buy at any store. Well, except on my Etsy Shop 😉

** Please note that the items on my shop get refreshed from time to time. If you don’t see something you’d like to get your hands-on contact me by requesting a custom order. **

I’m having a stem cell registry event, on Sunday I’m having a stem cell registry event, on Sunday, in the neighborhood of Allapattah in Miami, Florida.

My goal is not only to…
1️⃣ INCREASE THE ODDS of finding a stem cells donor match for my 💛
- So I’m going to 🇩🇴“Little Santo Domingo” 🇩🇴 but also
2️⃣ RAISE AWARENESS about getting on the registry.

Tell me?
Are you on the stem cell registry?

I have a link in my bio to help you get squared away. 👌🏽

Did you know it’s EASY to do and it’s FREE?
It’s just a buccal swab - that’s a swab of the cheeks.
By doing this YOU, yes - YOU, can SAVE THE LIFE of someone in need of a transplant.
IF you are matched— 80% of stem cell donations are just like donating platelets or plasma.

So PLEASE don’t let the fear of this being painful-traumatic medical procedure deter you from joining. It’s not that serious. You sit and watch some @netflix while you give up the goods - I mean stem cells. 😜

And have I mentioned that YOU CAN SAVE A LIFE!!!
I mean?!?! Come onnnnn.

Link in @builtbyjessie bio and all that jazz… but also 👇🏽

Not super painful - so have no fear! ☺️

It’s a win-win!

This community on Instagram has done amazing things by coming together to help those who need it the most. When we find a cause that speaks to us, we SHOW UP!!

So I’m here today to put this challenge out in the world to help make some magic! ✨

As my friend Yami said, we want to take over IG this week!! We want to share #DIYForaCure to raise awareness for
🎗Childhood Cancer Awareness Month 🎗

We have a chance to make an impact by not only helping Kell from @simplyhandmade and Oanh from @dangdiyhome - and their sons Donald and Chase, respectively, who are both battling cancer - but also other children with cancer.

Kell came up with the idea for #diyforacure and the original goal of raising $10K. Shortly thereafter Kell shared that the hospital needed $100K to even start the research.
So, making the goal $100K was a no brainer!!!!
Go big or go home!!!!
Amiright??

Sometimes you gotta go all out. Let’s shoot for the stars!! 💫

If you are not in a position where you can help by donating (no donation is too small because every little bit helps), PLEASE consider sharing this information to spread the word.

Someone you know may be in a position to help and make an impact, no matter how small.

Thank you.

I’ve shared additional ways to make a difference in my stories @builtbyjessie
Are you a “perfectly clean shop” or a “hot m Are you a “perfectly clean shop” or a “hot mess express shop” kinda person??? I must know!!

I like to THINK that I’d be a perfectly clean kinda person because contrary to the obvious mess, I love a clean garage.
I REALLY DO!

Unfortunately for me, Past Jessie doesn’t help Future Jessie out by having a clean shop to go to when she FINALLY carves out some DIY Time. 😑

Fact is that my shop time and DIY fun is so limited. So when I get to work I do my thing and then it’s deuces.✌🏽 Then MY garage is a hot mess for ever and ever. 😭

While we were out of town our neighbor collected our mail and placed it into the garage for us (cuz they had their trip before we returned).

So yeah… They got close and personal with this hot mess. 😳🤭😭 I’m embarrassed by the mess.

*shame, shame, shame*
Name 👆🏽 show!

Anywhoobs, it been to’ up from the flo’ up for far too long. It’s time to get back to working on all the projects.

So… it’s time to clean up!!
